An Experienced Marketing Pro Who Gives a Sh*t

As a seasoned Marketing Director with over 20 years of experience, I've learned people are much more likely to trust you, work with you, or buy from you if you give them a reason to Give A Sh*t. That's the “G.A.S. Factor,” and it informs everything I do as a communications professional.

While the G.A.S. Factor plays an undeniably critical role in marketing, it's even more important in creating the bedrock principles that get us out of bed every morning: the "Why?" behind our "What?"

​

In his groundbreaking TED Talk, “How Great Leaders Inspire Action,” Simon Sinek talks at length about understanding the power of our “why,” and posits that what we DO simply proves what we BELIEVE. 

 

Personally, I believe what we DO is a byproduct of who we ARE. At my core, I AM a storyteller, and I've been fortunate enough to channel that passion into what I DO: crafting compelling stories for a diverse array of clients ranging from local mom-and-pop shops to global organizations.

Mr. Sinek also asserts his belief that those who start with WHY have the ability to either inspire others or to find others who inspire them. This begs the question: which of these best reflects my beliefs? 

​

I'd argue that it's actually two sides of the same coin. The people who inspire me  - among them Brian Buffini, Brené Brown, and Gary Vaynerchuck (aka "Gary Vee") - have made it their life's work to inspire others. I pore over their work and internalize their lessons because I truly believe I can transform lives in my community and around the world by inspiring others through innovative, thoughtful, and empathetic marketing campaigns.

Maya Angelou once said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." In the end, Ms. Angelou perfectly illustrates the core tenet of my personal G.A.S. Factor. Whether you're interacting with me personally, professionally, or through a campaign under my direction, it's my sincere hope that you'll never forget how I made you feel.
